In the early 1980's,the moderate tier in the United States consisted primarily of lower quality, less expensive "full-service" hotels. No one understood guest needs in this segment.
Marriott saw the opportunity for a hotel designed just for these travelers. Extensive research into the preferences of these frequent business and leisure travelers became the blueprint for the Courtyard Concept: a hotel that consistently provides guests what they value most.
